I’ve been afraid to cook fish here because all of the fish have different names, and the only one I recognize by sight is salmon. This week, though, I randomly picked one out – Pangasius – and figured I could find a recipe with trusty Google.
Supposedly Pangasius is very similar to catfish. I found a delicious recipe posted by I Dine Alone for Pan Fried Paprika Pangasius. I haven’t been that successful in the past in keeping breading on meat, but this came out great. And it was very flavorful and easy to make. The whole deal took no more than 20 minutes. Overall, I rate this recipe high and will definately try it again.

looks delicious! did it come out similar to catfish–?
@Gorski – It felt like a milder catfish than I’m used to. The taste of the fish was a little plainer and the meat felt much softer – it just fell apart with a touch.
I think we call it “pango” here in Spain. Discovered it this year and it definitely is real tasty!

Hmmm. I think I saw that type of fish at our local Sam’s Club yesterday and was wondering WTH it was.
Cornmeal is often used for catfish because it sticks well. When pan frying, batters don’t work. Looks very good and healthy.
When I was in Austria, the ski lodge I stayed at served sparrow. I couldn’t figure out how there was enough meat off a little bird like a sparrow to eat. It turned out it was some type of fish.

Have a good friend here in Thailand who uses Pangasius fish exclusively for the “Fish and Chips” he serves. Every Brit who has ordered it has been full praise for his fish selection. Says that is much better than what they get in England.
