This is our outdoor themometer – in American terms, that’s 86 degrees. Phew! It’s hot! It doesn’t sound too bad, until you realize that apartments and houses in Belgium don’t have air conditioners.
We’ve got all our windows open and today I bought a fan to help along the breeze.
I even moved our little guest bed out onto the back porch for a shaded breezy seat.
Now I just need to sit back and have a cool drink. Yup, I’m a bubble water convert.
When I moved here, I was told that the temperature never gets into the 80s…yeah, yeah, just like it doesn’t snow here. :)

This is evil. Last summer got hot once in a while, but not for so long.

I noticed that this seems to be why Europeans go swimming in every drop of moving water i saw – ponds, lakes, rivers, everywhere filled with swimming people all summer.
i’m totally a gas water convert. yum.

Explain what the bubble water is. I’ve never heard of it, but your friends obviously have. Have I been in a cubicle too long, or is it just not in Raleigh?
Bubble water is just carbonated water – like Perrier. It has a different taste than water, and the bubbles make it feel a little fancier. :)
Ah, “La Canicule”! I hope it doesn’t last too long, Belgium definitely isn’t made for hot weather… I managed to avoid most of the horrible Canicule in 2003, but did return in time to catch the worst week of it, what a nightmare!
So good luck, and keep lots of cold drinks in the fridge!
PS: I introduced myself in your first “moving to Belgium” post but I’m not sure if it got posted properly…
It looks like a cool change may be in the air. Hopefully you can sleep more easily tonight.
They have bubble water on tap here at work, but I still can’t understand the addiction.
