I’m participating in two virtual quilting bees, Sew Connected 3, and Another Quilting Bee 1. This was the first block that I made – for Sew Do I in Thailand. She sent us 5 fabrics and no requirements for what to make, but she hinted that embroidery might be nice. When I opened the package, the solid pink color said Heart to me. The green leafy fabric inspired the embroidery. And then I thought the big crazy paisley flower was a good contrast to the detailed orderly pattern in the bottom corner.
After completing the block, I noticed the problems with it – maybe I can still fix some of them. The heart is not symmetrical. The bottom yellow block is slightly crooked. And I ran out of white fabric at the top corner and had to piece some smaller pieces together. If I did it again, I would make the white strips thinner and the 4 blocks bigger.
Overall, it was a good first block. The pattern came to me right away – hopefully future blocks will be that easy. And I got to practice my embroidery – split stitch, stem stitch, and French knots. Hopefully, it will work for Sew-Do-I’s quilt. You can see the other participant’s blocks by clicking on the Sew Connected 3 link above.

I never would have noticed the heart being not symmetric if you hadn’t of said anything silly. I love it, I think it is perfect.

I love the embroidery. Reading about your quilt is a nice change to taking care of Maria. (She is healing, by the way.) Have you been to the Costume Museum over by Grande Place? Last time I was there, they had a display of quilts. Your things are 10 times better than the ones they had displayed, but they are an inspiration.
WOW! What a beautiful block!
