This is just another photo dump post. I haven’t done anything really blog-worthy recently. These shots were taken in our first week here – we haven’t seen that much snow since that first week. These were taken from these two albums:
Thomas went to the FOSDEM conference this last weekend. I went with him to use the Wifi. I mostly tuned out the lectures, but what I did pick up was pretty inspirational. All of those people were there because they support free and open software – it’s sort of like the online crafting world. People share their patterns, and ideas, and are open to others trying them, modifying them, and making their own versions with their own flair. Very cool!
Saturday night, we went to a fun party with the New to Brussels Meetup group again. I met several really nice people, and has some delicious food, but ended the night falling down the stairs and tearing up my arm. It’s mostly purple right now, but at least it’s not broken. I am definately stairs-challenged – single-story houses only for me!
Monday, we met with the police and proved our identity and that we live in our apartment. I thought this was a silly rule, that all people have to prove who they are when they move somewhere new, but it makes sense now. Unfortunately, we just found out that someone has been using our home in Atlanta to receive mail. They wouldn’t have been able to do that if the police had visited them at the house and made sure they lived there.
I’ve been working on my vintage sheet quilt, and hopefully by the time we get internet at home, I’ll be able to post some photos. I’m using the blue, green, and purple fabrics for this one. Most of the fabric is cut; now I just need to sew it together.
It’s going to be a busy weekend. Thursday, I’m joining a friend to tour Amsterdam. Friday morning, I’m going on a tour of the oldest wall in Brussels. And Friday evening, we leave for Rome for a long weekend. Have a happy Valentine’s Day!
