View from our balcony

We arrived safe and well in Belgium.  The flight was uneventful.  I read more of the 4th Twilight series book and then fell asleep.   We made it through immigration and customs without any questions and then took took a taxi to our new apartment.

The apartment is decent.  We’re on the 4th floor of a very green area.  This entry’s photo is from our balcony.  There are two bedrooms, a living and dining room, a kitchen, a shower room, a toilet room, and a washing machine room.  All of the furniture is Ikea-esque.  My only complaint is that there is some mildew in the washing machine room, but I can deal with that for this first month.

After a 4-hour nap, we went looking for a grocery store.  I think we’re going to do a lot of walking, as we walked a mile each way.  Unfortunately, we didn’t find an open grocery, but we did stop for some tasty Chinese food.  As typical Belgian style, the meal took a couple hours.

Afterward, we headed home and watched the end of the Sound of Music with Dutch subtitles.  We toasted the New Year with Cran Apple juice and a chocolate bar, and then headed to bed.

Belgium is a lot colder than I expected – it’s about 34 degrees (F) today.  Unfortunately, I left my leather jacket in Atlanta, and packed my long johns and ski jacket in the month-long shipment.  We’ve had trouble figuring out how to get the heat working in our apartment, though it’s finally on in the living room.  It’s not too bad though – chilly but not cold.

That’s all for now, I just wanted to say we arrived and all is well.  I’ll post more soon.
