This is just another quick post while Thomas and I are sharing the internet – just one at a time right now. He hasn’t posted on his blog for a few days, so he’ll probably be online for a bit while uploading his photos…
Today, we rented a car and drove around Brussels and Mons (the biggest city near Thomas’ office). It took us 50 minutes to get to Mons from our temp apartment in Ixelles, but that was with the empty Sunday roads. We had lunch in the square, and then went to check out some of the smaller nearby towns. We took backroads – single lanes surrounded by farms in some parts – back to Brussels.
We saw a range of areas today – from normal single family houses, to rundown industrial areas, to cute little towns. When I visited Mons this summer, I think I saw mostly the industrial areas around it, but today we saw some better parts. It doesn’t have as many parks as Brussels, but it would be a decent place to live where I wouldn’t need a car. We also passed through a some small towns that we need to research more – Braine-le-Comte, which is the midpoint between Mons and Brussels, and Uccle, which is close to our temp apartment. These were both cute little towns.
Tomorrow is Thomas’ first day of work, so I will have my first day alone here. It’s actually my first free day since I quit my job last month, but I’m looking forward to catching up on some blog-reading and exploring some of the areas around here. With my GPS, a bus pass, and my new cell phone card to call Thomas for directions, I feel okay exploring. I’ll also try to use my new point and shoot camera to get some video clips of our apartment. Till then…

I hope you’re having a good day on your own.
It’s less than an hour train ride to Brussels for me so if you’d ever like to meet up, let me know.
I have an exam this week and one on the 27th, but otherwise I’m free this month.
I don’t know Brussels very well, but I don’t mind wandering :)

mons looks very festive!
I didnt mind Mons when i was there.
Also there are 3 routes of free buses in mons (and reg buses) that you wouldnt need your own transport either. Its close to a train station to get into Brussels (with trains going almost every hour)
not that bad!
