Moving Update

It has been a very productive week for getting things set up for Belgium, and back here in the US.

Coming to Brussels

Temp Housing on the southside of Brussels

In Belgium, we now have a place to live for the first month. We’ll be in a temporary apartment on the south side of town, very close to a big park. I’m not sure how well this hour-long commute will work for Thomas in the long run, but we figured we’d try it out for the first month.  I have a feeling that we’ll end up with our permanent apartment closer to his office for the shorter commute, but I’m feeling much more comfortable with that idea now.

Other than spending two hours on the road each day, the challenge is that Thomas will be limited to train and bicycle for the first two months.  His office is a little out in the country, so he’d have to ride the train an hour, then bicycle 30 minutes.  He’s hoping to get a motorcycle over there, but he can’t register one until we get a permanent residence (possibly end of February).  He has found a way to ship his current motorcycle over, but it would probably take even longer to arrive.

Fabric Mail

Things at home are winding down too. We’ve continued selling our stuff through Amazon, Ebay, and Craigslist. Amazon is definitely easiest – did you know you can use media mail for a reduced rate of sending books and other media? As you can see, I’ve been visiting the post office pretty regularly.

We’ve finally found a rental management company we’re happy with, and scheduled painters to paint the interior and decks this week. There’s still a few things to do – get estimates from yard maintenance companies and steam clean the carpets.  We’ve been working on making a master list of every item we’re shipping over for Customs and Insurance – not a fun task. Our movers ship off our stuff in just over a week, and then we’re off to celebrate Christmas with my family.  We’ll arrive in Brussels on New Year’s Eve.

Giveaway Winners!

So are you sick of fabric givewaway posts?  I guess I owe y’all a few winner names.  Sorry for the delay…

The random number generator picked:

For the Wishlist Fat Quarters – Brit at Running Stitch

Socks are definitely on my wish list SOCKS WARM SOCKS. And a watch. Now that the baby haze is over I find myself needing to be places more often…on time. Also I would really like my own Garmin Forerunner. Is Santa listening Dallas? is he?

For the Recommend a Site Fat Quarters – Sue Cahill

One of my favorite blogs is Simply This That and the Other (http://simplythisthatandtheother.blogspot.com/). Wonderful, inspiring ideas, beautiful photography. I visit every day.

And for the Giveaway Day, I feel like a blogging rockstar!  There were 198 comments on yesterday’s post.  I had no idea that my scraps would be so desirable.

Everyone shared such great ideas for projects that I wish I could have given a little bit to each commentor. Instead, I scoured my scrap piles and spare sheets and came up with enough scraps to pick 5 winners.

The first winner wins a box of some of the smaller scraps.  I felt a little bad giving just small scraps, so I also added in some vintage Christmas fabric, and a few other little goodies.

The random winner is:

Laurie from Scarlet Fig

The other four envelopes are a little bit of a challenge.  I picked out four bloggers from all of the comments that I find very inspiring in their crafty creations and made them each a packet with a similar set of fabrics.  I look forward to seeing how they each use the same fabrics with their own flair.

Those winners are:

I hope you all enjoy the fabrics and I look forward to seeing what you make with them.

One More Giveaway

Wow, thanks for all the comments on the last two giveaways.  I have closed the comments and will draw a winner shortly.  I sold most of the fabric I listed on Ebay, and listed a little more — including some vintage sheets and my old sewing machine.

Sew Mama Sew is hosting a Giveaway Day today, so I thought I’d hold one more giveaway, and then I’ll draw winners for all of them tomorrow.

For this giveaway, I’m giving away vintage sheet scraps below. These are pieces from the sheets I collected for the blue and yellow quilts I’m working on, and the leftovers I sent in from the vintage sheet fat quarter swap. There are all sizes, shapes and patterns.

To enter, leave me a comment describing what you would do with vintage sheet pieces – I’m looking for inspiration.  :)  Due to shipping costs, this giveaway is open to US addresses only.
