A Different Perspective

This week’s challenge on Exposaroonie is to take a photo from a different perspective.  I narrowed my shots down to two – you’ll have to click over to Exposaroonie to see which one I submitted.  :)

First (in order of taking it) is Thomas. He was trying out his new Wii Fit and I was showing his brother how close you can get with our wide angle lens. I was actually just a couple of inches from his face.  It’s funny that this is the angle that I don’t allow Thomas to take my photo – under chin shots are not allowed.

The next shot is Charlie, my sister-in-law’s cat.  While we were at her house this past weekend, Charlie chilled out on his cat condo, which was taller than me.  I thought it would be fun to duck down and get a shot up at him.  I particularly like how the background showed up so dark.

Princess Garb and a Crazy Uncle

We’ve secretly replaced a cute little 3 year old with her crazy uncle for this blog post.  She would have been a much better model for this princess gear, but she wasn’t available.  However, this is what the teaser photo from last week became…

I used a no-sew tutorial for the tulle skirt – very easy, but make sure the tulle isn’t too itchy for little legs.  The bracelet and necklace were just beads strung on elastic.  And the crown was modeled after Uncommon Grace’s birthday crowns.  I wanted to use the purple fabric in the teaser photo for a drawstring bag to store it all in, but I’m still not advanced enough to sew slippery fabric and my sewing machine got jammed.

Killdeer at the Border

We’re back from our weekend in Raleigh. I’ll post more about it later this week — once I’ve got photos processed, laundry done, and am caught up on sleep — but it was a great trip.

Killdeer

I just wanted to share these two photos that I took at the rest stop on the Georgia/South Carolina border. I noticed two Killdeers in a field so I grabbed my camera and birding lens. Thomas mentioned that Killdeer are not very shy, so I crept a little closer.

When I got too close, the two birds ran off, and then collapsed on the ground fluttering their wings as if they were broken. I could tell they were pulling some trick, since they seemed to be fine, then broken, and then fine again. Thomas explained that is how they lead predators away from their nests.

Sure enough, there were four eggs laying in the mulch where they had been standing – the eggs blended in very well. I snapped a quick photo and then headed back to the car.

Exposaroonie: Softer Side of Nature

This week on Exposaroonie, the challenge theme is the Softer Side of Nature. I was glad to get a nature challenge, as that is what I usually prefer to photograph. Unfortunately, I have not captured any really great animal shots this week – even with two deer in our backyard this weekend. Instead, I wandered around my backyard with my macro lens and captured these two shots. I haven’t decided which, but I’ll submit one for this week’s challenge. What do you think?

Fuzzy Leaves

Dandelion

There were a few other shots that I captured that I was really pleased with, but they didn’t seem as “soft” to me. Anyhow, I wanted to share them, and there are more on Flickr.

White Flowers

Autumn Fern

Fly

And these next two photos are the same photo, but I just changed the colors in post-processing. It’s interesting how much just that can change the feeling of a photo.
