We celebrated Earth Hour tonight. It’s an event sponsored by the World Wildlife Foundation that encourages people across the world to turn off their lights for one hour. This year it was today from 8-9PM.
So what did I do in the single hour of candlelight?
- Fed Clover
- Unloaded the dishwasher
- Watered the houseplants
- Swept the kitchen floor
- Folded and put away laundry
- Showered
Watering and sweeping were a little harder without lights, but the other items were fine. We’ve actually continued going by candlelight the rest of the night.

Sweeping by candlelight made me laugh out loud… our place looks as though it’s always swept by candlelight!
I missed Earth Hour too, but I think it would make a calming and pleasant weekly tradition.
Next year, I’ll try and post early that it’s coming up — And Natalie, I agree. I think it’s a good tradition too and could easily be done more frequently than just once a year
I wasn’t aware of it until late yesterday afternoon, so I had made no real plans to do anything. Then I got a migraine and went to bed at 8, so everything was turned off anyway :-)
