We slept through the bird count Saturday. Sunday morning was overcast and dreary, so we held out waiting for some sun to shine through. Around 3:30, we gave up on the sun and decided to do a quick count as a thunderstorm came rolling in. Luckily we were counting from the dry, warm safety of our living room window. I was surprised that the birds did not mind the rain, especially considering how big a raindrop would be from their perspective.
Anyway, this is what we counted:
- Mourning Dove – 2
- Red-bellied Woodpecker – 1
- Blue Jay – 1
- Common Raven – 2
- Carolina Chickadee – 8
- Tufted Titmouse – 3
- White-breasted Nuthatch – 3
- Carolina Wren – 1
- Northern Mockingbird – 1
- Eastern Towhee – 4
- White-throated Sparrow – 3
- Dark-eyed Junco – 1
- Northern Cardinal – 4
Thomas took the photo in this post, but he was going to delete it, so I claimed it. This is the first weekend this year that we’ve seen robins in our yard, though none during our count. Thomas says that means Spring is coming. I sure hope he’s right.
Here’s a few more photos from around the yard:
