Handmade Greeting Cards Update

All of the Handmade Greeting Cards have arrived

I’ve received all of the Handmade Greeting Cards for the swap, and will be splitting them up and mailing them back out to the participants. I’m so excited about how they all turned out. Here’s a shot of them all lined up on my dining room table, and a sneak peek of mine, which haven’t made it upstairs yet.

Spot Metering and Manual Mode

When I was a kid, I could play a couple songs on the piano because I memorized which keys to press. It didn’t take long until I couldn’t go any further without learning to read music, which I never did. I think my photography is similar – I’ve got a lot of the settings I use memorized, but I don’t want to get stuck in it like I did with the piano. Honestly, I still get confused by aperture and shutter speed, so I got Me Ro Kah‘s Photography DVD – Beyond the Green Box – to learn how to use the manual settings a little better.

Thomas and I watched the DVD Saturday morning, pausing to try the exercises as the video instructed. It was a cute DVD and I was pleased with the results. These were shot in manual mode with spot metering. Me Ra also teaches a women’s photography workshop that I keep hoping she’ll bring to the East Coast. It’s geared toward mothers, so maybe when I’m closer to motherhood, I’ll be able to go.

I love these shots of Clover and her daddy watching birds out the window. This is a typical view from our weekends.

Kosmic Bowling with Jane and Bill

On Saturday night, Thomas and I went kosmic bowling (with black lights) with Jane and Bill. I played with the portrait lens and the rich colors from the crazy lights, and Thomas played with the distortion from the wide angle, which I then turned into black and whites. You can see what we came up with here:

My New Shoes

I got some new shoes today. They’re low-top Converse decorated with cardinals and blue birds that look like cardinals. They remind me of the hand decorated Converse I wore in high school, but they’ve got birds on them instead. Yay!

My New Bird Shoes

Speaking of Converse, I’m going to Boston for a couple days in the near future. It’s a quick trip, but is there anything that I need to be sure not to miss while I’m there?
