Thomas and I used some Christmas money to get a wide angle lens – Sigma 10-20mm. We’ve been discussing what lens we’d like to add to our collection, and decided that this one would be great for traveling. We’re usually focused close up on animals, so this lens will help us get some landscape shots.
It arrived yesterday, and we tested it out around the house. Things appear in it a little stretched, as you can see in the shot of me – our table is not really that wide. And yes, our dinner wasn’t exciting, but I just wanted something fast. The field of view is amazing. In the photo of Thomas, you can see almost 180 degrees of our kitchen.
The lens fits on both of our cameras, so we’ll have to take turns using it, but hopefully by the end of this week, we’ll have something more interesting than I used in this post. It’s on his camera in the photo at the top — I took that using my new lightbox. :)

Oooh I came over from Meg’s blog, what a treat to find! I am going to get absorbed in your wonderful photography. My fiance wants to get a D300, we both have a D200 right now and I said that until we can afford two D300 then we have to stick with what we have!
Oh! I’ve been shopping around for lenses also. I can’t decide what to get. I want a wide angle eventually.
Very nice! It’ll be interesting to see what kind of landscape shots you guys get out of that one.
We’ve been looking at wideangle lenses but haven’t made up our minds yet. Too busy buying a new camera and a telephoto. :)
Are you happy with the Sigma lenses? We bought one but think we’re going to sell it with the Canon 20D as we don’t feel it’s sharp enough.
I have a Nikon D50 and really want to buy agood wide angle lense and also a good lense for closeup work (like pics of flowers and projects) Do you have any recommendations for a good lense for closeup work?
