Hurray! The first of the Jekyll Island photos have been posted. I don’t know how I was able to take over 10 gigs of photos in a single weekend. I still have a lot to week through. This first set shows the beach immediately behind our motel. We stayed at Oceanfront Clarion Resort. We were told that the motels on the Island are pretty ghetto, especially the ones that allowed dogs, but this one was actually pretty nice. It’s not a Marriott, but it was clean, quiet, backing up to the beach, and had really comfy beds. I would recommend it.
Anyway, I’ve posted this first set of photos on Flickr:
- Clover Discovers the Beach (Jekyll Island) (23 photos)
The colors were gorgeous. This photo was from Sunday morning when we took Clover for a walk on the beach before heading out birding.
Clover loved the sand and ran up and down the beach as fast as her little legs could move her. There was a rock wall blocking the ocean, so she didn’t really get to see the water.
The beach was pretty narrow. Our motel was just behind the trees and the ocean was on the other side of the rocks. The weather was gorgeous…though just a little cold.
On Monday, Thomas woke me up early so we could watch the sunrise before heading back to Atlanta. When we got out there, we discovered that the tide was up and the beach did not exist. You can see how far into the ocean the rock wall was. The wind was whipping pretty hard, so we headed on home before too long.
P.S. Tomorrow is the last signup day for the Handmade Greeting Card Swap. We have 8 participants, so if anyone else is interested, we’d love to have you. I started on my swap cards tonight, and I’m really excited to see what everyone makes.

these shots would be fantastic on the savejekyllisland.org site.
I haven’t been to jekyll since I was a kid. These photos are incredible and really make me want to take a weekend trip down there soon.
What, what movement you have in your photographs. I’m going to have to start asking you if I can have prints of some of these!
I may have another person for the greeting card swap – my co-worker. If it’s too late let me know.
Your amazing photos completely warm my heart! Jekyll is my most favorite place on earth. My very best friend and I used to go there several times a year without the husbands, kids, or any responsibilities. We have found it more difficult to go lately, and I long to see it again soon with her! Your shots capture the beauty there better than any postcard I have ever seen! You are right about the hotels there- they are renovating though. Thanks so much for stopping by.
By the way, I know I am too late for the home-made card swap, but I would love to do that next time…another friend of mine (Natalie from http://www.thebensonfamilyandotherstuff.blogspot.com) turned me on to making cards. She would probably be interested too!
