Ten Birds

Contest Winner

When I started this contest, my random guess was that I’d make 6 ornaments while on the road. And then we hit holiday traffic. Instead of taking 6 hours to North Carolina, it took 10. So then you might guess I made 8 ornaments. But on the way back, we got a really late start, and I only had a couple hours of daylight. Then you might guess 7 ornaments. But…I was a newbie with embroidery and I had a little stumbling along the way, so I only got 3 ornaments completed.

Congratulations Ali! You guessed correctly. Send me your address and I’ll mail you one of the bird ornaments.  The pink bone is for Clover. :)

Though these took me a while, I still recommend the pattern. (Her sample was a little neater.) Next time, I would bring more than one needle, make sure I have embroidery-sized needles, and cut the shapes out beforehand. However, these were fun and easy to make, and I learned three new stitches – the daisy stitch, the blanket stitch, and the French knot. I cut out a few more shapes that I will finish up, and these will go proudly on my tree.

Pecan Pie

Sorry, I’m too exhausted tonight to do a more thoughtful post. And the contest winner is being delayed one more day. I’m just posting a few more trip photos for tonight – these are from Thanksgiving morning at my parents’ house. Mom and I made pecan pie (pronounced peh-cahn). It was delicious!

We’re back from the trip. Thanksgiving was great. I have lots of laundry to catch up on. And tons of photos to post. Tomorrow I’ll post the winner of the ornament guessing game.

In the meantime, enjoy these photos of my graceful husband playing tennis.

Thanks to Thomas’ sister, Suzanne, for taking the photos…

Afternoon in the Park

I actually took these photos a few weeks ago, but I completely forgot to post them. After work one day, Thomas and I were both home before the sun set, so we took Clover over to the park. The leaves were putting gorgeous reflections on the lake. And Clover had fun chasing the geese in the water. I posted my photos in Flickr.

Here’s some of my favorites from this set.
