A Trip to the Pond

This morning, Thomas and I took Clover to Roswell Area Park to visit the geese at the pond. When we lived in Indiana, she loved going to the neighborhood pond to chase frogs and eat goose poop.

We took our cameras of course…my favorite shots from my camera are below. Note: I had the 18-200, but was accidentally set to iso1600. My shots are grainy and overexposed. Thomas used the macro lens.

N is for Neverending (N, O, P)

This Encyclopedia of Me meme is a cool idea, but it’s starting to feel neverending. I’m following some of the other participants for this entry in posting multiple letters with short blurbs in a single entry. Maybe I can catch up and finish before the end of the month. :) So, here’s N, O, and P.

N is for:

  • Norway – On my list of countries I really want to visit
  • Neighbors – I hardly know any of mine – they’re not social
  • Nano – I finally bought myself an iPod this week
  • Niece – I got my first (and only) niece by marrying Thomas
  • Nikon – I use a Nikon D50

O is for:

  • October – The month that I was born
  • Oprah Book Club – I tend to like her recommendations
  • Owls – I’d really like to try and make one of these
  • Orienteering – I’m better with cardinal directions than left/right
  • Oregon – On my list of states I really want to visit

P is for:

  • Prepared – Something I value and try to be
  • Pistachios – I kept these on my desk during my college exams
  • Picoult – I’ve read/listened to many of her books
  • Puppy – Clover is 5 years old, but we still call her a puppy
  • Parking – I hate, and will try to avoid parallel parking

M is for Music

I don’t know if anyone even noticed the music at our wedding, but we did spend a lot of time selecting it. Thomas and I decided that a classical guitarist was a good selection for our woodsy-themed wedding – classy, but not too formal. We shopped around for one that had The Beatles in his repertoire. (By the way, if you’re looking for a classical guitarist in the Atlanta area, I totally recommend our musician, Joel Williams.)

Joel Williams, the classical guitarist

We tried out a bunch of different combinations, but we finally came up with:

  • Procession – In My Life by The Beatles
  • Bride walks in – Standard Here Comes the Bride
  • Recession – Across the Universe by The Beatles

One of the funny moments of the ceremony happened because the guitarist was not able to see when everyone was finished coming down the aisle – we changed things around due to rain and he got stuck in the back. Since he could not see us, he stretched out the song for a couple extra verses while we all stood politely waiting for him to finish. Finally, one of the groomsmen let him know he could end the song, and everyone got a little laugh.

After the ceremony, Joel continued playing while we had our photos taken and people had hors d’oeuvres. Thomas used his iPod for light dinner music (more instrumental Beatles), but I’m not even sure if that played since most of dinner was filled with Swedish-style toasts.

After dinner, a couple tables were cleared away to make a dance floor. Thomas and I had taken a dance class and learned to waltz. We really wanted to dance to “our song” – Dixieland Delight by Alabama – but it was too fast. Instead, we danced to She’s Everything by Brad Paisley (Thomas’ choice). Then, Thomas danced with his mother, and me with my father, to Stand by Me by Ben E. King.

Instead of throwing the bouquet, we had an anniversary dance. We asked all married couples to join us on the dance floor. After a brief time, my brother announced that all couples married for less than two hours need to sit down. He then continued, working through one year, two years, five years, and so on. Finally, there were two couples left – my Mom and Dad, and my Aunt and Uncle. My Aunt and Uncle won by one month, and I gave my Aunt a small bouquet.

The night continued with a few more dances. My Matron of Honor, Georgy, set up the playlist the day before, and did a great job, but unfortunately the only song I really remember was Dancing Queen by ABBA, which I made sure we had to represent all the Swedish guests.

Fun Monday: Little White Lies

I have a bunch of things still to do tonight, and I’m hoping to get to bed early, so I’m making this entry short. This week on Fun Monday, Uncaring Bear asks:

Share with us a little white lie that you may, or may not, have gotten away with. Perhaps it’s something more sinister than a little white lie – maybe even a deep dark secret that you’ve kept buried for years! All the better! Now’s your chance to get it off your chest and confess: “Yes, I did eat that last slice of cheese cake”, “No, I wasn’t washing my hair that Saturday”, “Those pants do make you look fat”!

My little white lie takes place in college. I was on a first date, and the date wasn’t going so well. The conversation was just not flowing over dinner. After dinner, we went to the bowling alley, and I excused myself to the restroom and called my roommate to help. I asked her to “coincidently” stop by and interrupt our date.

She showed up and brought one our friends, and they hung out with us, keeping the conversation flowing. It was much easier with a group. Needless to say, no romantic relationship started from that date, but the guy and I did remain friends for a while. I don’t know if he ever knew that my friends showing up was not just a coincidence.

L is for Lists

I am a sticky-note-aholic. I live by lists. And stacks and spreadsheets too.You should have seen the spreadsheets I had going while planning our wedding – what was left to make/do, addresses of who to invite, who was sitting where, who has been sent Thank You notes… Things were very smooth on our wedding day…but that was thanks to family rather than my lists. In the rush of things, most of my lists were thrown out the window.

Actually, I find that I use lists to calm my worries, rather than to follow. For me, making a list is like documenting a thought so I can get it out of my head and let it go. This is sort of like I do with items I’m having a hard time throwing away – I take a photo and then it’s easier to get rid of.

Thomas is not a list person, but this weekend he decided to go label crazy in our garage. It has been a huge mess, but with the help of his label gun, we now have clear work benches and labeled drawers, shelves, and boxes. He has a photo showing what it looked like before on his Flickr site and this is what it looks like now.
