Five Random Facts About Food and Me

There’s been a meme going around asking people to post a list of random facts about themselves. That was way too vague for me, so I narrowed it to facts about food and me. Here they are:

  1. Thomas nearly dumped me when I told him, but I don’t like ice cream. I’ll occasionally eat it, but I usually just prefer the cone and toppings. I’m not much of a sweets fan, I don’t like extremely cold foods, and dairy and me don’t agree. Though I do love dairy in pasta sauces and cheese. Yum.
  2. I like to sort my food by color, size, and completeness. For example, if I’m eating M&Ms, I will sort them by color, then eat them in order of least favorite M&M colors to most favorite. Yellow, orange, and brown are my favorites. I also will eat my fries in size order (smallest to largest), or my chips in wholeness order (crushed to complete).
  3. I do try new foods and since I’ve met Thomas, I have become pretty adventurous in restaurants, but honestly, I would be perfectly content eating the same thing everyday. Thanks to those around me, I don’t get to do that too often, but eating the same thing two days in a row does not bother me.
  4. I often chew to a rhythm, crunching to some beat in my head. I knew that I did this, but I wasn’t aware that others knew until my Mom pointed out that I look like a squirrel when I do it. Oh well, I also tap my thumb to each of my fingers as I walk.
  5. Having been raised by Texans, in North Carolina, I have heard many sides to the barbecue debate. However, I have to side with my roots on this one – nothing beats beef ribs on the barbecue grill — with sweet sauce, that is. And a rib isn’t done until all the meat is gone.

Go ahead, feel free to share. Got any weird food idiosyncrasies? I’m sure they’re not as weird as mine.

Swimming with Alison and Kevin

We ran into Kevin and Alison at church today, and they invited us to come swimming at their neighborhood pool this evening. It was a very nice break to cool off, and we had a great time just hanging out with friends.

Once I started getting pruny, I got out of the pool and took some photos. This one is one of my favorites – Thomas splashed around so I could see what settings gave the best results. This one was Aperture priority, and the lowest F-stop. I like how the water droplets are defined.

Atlanta Pride Festival

To combat the heat in the house, Thomas and I went out to the Atlanta Pride Festival yesterday. We forgot that it was even hotter outside without shade. We did one lap around the park and then headed back home.  We did get to see the giant AIDS quilt before we left, though.

I took a few photos at the festival, but I was really disappointed with my shots. I took about half in shutter priority by accident, so those were over exposed. The others were just not that interesting. However, if you do want to see the shots, they’re on Flickr.

Looky What I Got

I finally found this fabric in stock online and snatched it up. I’m now the proud owner of pink and blue VW Bus fabric by Heather Ross. I’m not sure what I’ll use it for, but I’ve got a couple ideas…maybe even curtains for my bus.

Still No A/C

We still don’t have a working A/C…after 3 weeks. Thomas took it apart this past weekend, but is having some trouble locating a new fan blade in the correct size. I’m actually starting to get used to it. We have ceiling fans in all the rooms except the kitchen and living room, and honestly, we don’t spend much time in those rooms anyway. Plus, with the recent rain, it’s been cool enough to sleep with the bedroom windows open.

Kelly Jo

I’m getting so used to it that when Kelly Jo emailed me to see if she and Steve could crash in our guest room Monday night, I said sure, and forgot that they probably won’t tune out the heat as easily as we are. But, then I remembered and warned her, and they braved it out anyway.

Steve and Thomas watch YouTube

We had a good time hanging out with them – they caught us up on St. A alumni news, taught us to play darts, and showed us some interesting videos on YouTube.
