Apron with fake pleats

I just remembered I didn’t post this earlier – I was waiting until I gave it to Jane for her birthday a couple of weeks ago. This was the first half-apron that I’ve ever made, but I was pleased with how it turned out.

First, I made a long tie, to tie around the waist. Next, I hemmed the bottom and sides, and then at the top, I sewed a little pocket all the way across, and strung the long tie through it – kind of like a curtain rod. Then I scrunched the apron up on the tie, and sewed it down at each end where the tie went through the apron, so the scrunching would stay. It was my attempt at making fake pleats.

Boardgame Night

On Friday, Thomas and I had a few friends over for boardgame night in an attempt to be more social and host friends at our house. The group split between gamer games (Spooks, Plunder, and Family Business), and party games (Monopoly, Apples to Apples, and Taboo). Later on, a few tried the Wii.

It was a good night with lots of fun, food and friends. I look forward to holding another one sometime in the future.

Amanda Squeals

This weekend, Thomas’ sister, brother-in-law, and their 18-month-old daughter visited us from NC. Amanda is a cutie-pie, and I took ton of photos over the weekend. I’ve posted some of my favorites to flickr.

I enjoyed watching Amanda and trying to figure out what she’s thinking. It was interesting how she would test her limits and look at her parents to see if they would stop her. This weekend was the first time I’ve spent a couple days in the company of a toddler, and there was a lot of things I learned. For one, taking photos of them is not like taking photos of animals where I’m silent and still. Thomas, on the other hand, has the coaxing and animated crazy uncle photographer act down pat.

I’m still keeping up. Here are the photos I took in the second week of Project 365. If you’d like to see the whole collection, they’re posted on my Flickr page, and you can see more detailed captions by clicking the images.
