Turn Around

Red MushroomWe were going to NC this past weekend, but after 2.5 hours on Hwy 85, we were only 45 minutes from our house, so we turned around and headed back home. Otherwise, we would have arrived at 3AM.

It worked out for the better, though. Thomas and I got plenty of good quality chatting time in the stopped traffic. And we were going to get hardly any time outside of wedding dress shopping and babysitting while in NC. We’ve rescheduled for when we will have more time. Mom can still take me wedding dress shopping, we can baby sit Thomas’ neice, and we will have time to see our friends too.

Originally, we were going to NC to drop off Clover for my family to babysit while we were on some upcoming trips. But, both trips have been changed. Thomas’ 10 year reunion in South Florida was cancelled, and our Labor Day camping trip with our Bloomington friends was postponed.

Instead, we spent this weekend working in the yard (mowed the backyard, cleared out some dead tree branches), watching Little Miss Sunshine (highly recommend it, especially since it focuses around a VW bus), and eating lunch with our chuch group. It was a good, relaxing weekend.

It’s been raining alot recently, and we have mushrooms popping up all over the yard. The entry photo is one of the red mushrooms in the front yard.

Caterpillar Cafe

Swallowtail Caterpillars on ParsleyI have a few plants on my back porch, one of which is a parsley plant. It is small, but alive, and I have kept it alive for almost a year. Well, at least, I used to have a parsley plant.

Today, when I checked on it, I noticed that it is now the hip hangout for Swallowtail caterpillars – the new Caterpillar Cafe. There were nine Swallowtail caterpillars on the branches, and barely any leaves left.

Oh well, it was nice while it lasted.

I'm Still Alive

Tomatos and PeppersI haven’t written since I got back from Phoenix, but I’m still alive. All is well.

The weekend I got back, we were supposed to go to the High Country Bus Festival in Boone, but the bus is broken so we had to pass it up. It’s okay though, since I was pretty worn down by the trip.

The following weekend, we went to the Batland Bluegrass Festival to learn about some of the local bluegrass bands. It was fun, but way too hot. Next time, we’ll be more prepared with camping gear, food, and Clover so we don’t have to rush home at night. I really wanted to hear a particular band that I was interested in for the wedding, and though they’re good, it turns out that they’re out of my price range.

Green CicadaI also went wedding dress shopping with Jane and Anna that weekend. There was a particular dress that I had my eye on. Thankfully though, they were honest and convinced me that draping a bunch of extra fabric over my mid-section emphasizes my stomach, rather than the minimizing I was trying to achieve. I had been so focused on finding something to hide my body that I wasn’t looking at dresses that made me feel beautiful. We came up with some other types to look at – hopefully this next weekend.

This weekend, we cleaned out the garage, painted half of the master bedroom, did some yardwork, and saw Talladega Nights. We kept busy, but it was a fun, relaxing weekend.

And some random comments…the first entry photo is a few tomatos and peppers I picked in my garden. The second is a green cicada that was hatching on our porch. Today is the 11th anniversary from the day I moved from Boca and Georgy’s Birthday. Happy Birthday, G!
