Chris and Randi's Rehersal Dinner

Mary, the self-proclaimed fun aunt This past weekend, we went to Abeliene, Texas to see my cousin Chris’ wedding to Randi. I had a great time, and it was a beautiful wedding, though I probably won’t get the actual wedding photos posted until the end of the weekend. In the meantime, here are some of Thomas’ photos of the rehersal dinner and after party.

We played pass the baby, swing the little girl, and balance spoons on your nose. I got plenty of ideas for my wedding, and I discovered a new way to eat strawerry shortcake – take a warm biscuit, add hot strawberries and juice, cover with heavy cream. Yum. It must be a Texas thing. :)

Here are the rest of the photos:

Hailing in May

Hail storm on the back porchI should have known that when I put my plants on the porch to enjoy some sunshine that we would have a hail storm – the worst that I’ve ever seen.  Actually, I really haven’t ever seen hail before.

Thomas and I stood outside trying to catch it, but came in since it just kept bouncing off our heads. I took an 8 second video too – trying Google Video for the first time. I can’t believe how fast it was falling. Now, steam is rising from the ground, the sun is shining, and the air feels fresh.

Cowpoke Quilt

Thursday night, before I headed off to Texas for my cousin’s wedding, I quickly finished a quilted project that I’ve been working on for a couple months. Most of the reason this quilt has taken so long is that I get frustrated with all the mistakes. I kept repeating my mantra: The baby is just going to throw up on it anyway. Still, it was neat to see them actually use it while I was there.

This is the first quilt that I actually ever finished, but it was sloppy. Next time, I will take Thomas’ mom’s advice and quilt it diagonally rather than with patterns. I tried to do little squares and criscrosses to match the cowboy theme and to disguise my corners that weren’t matched up too well. I also totally cheated on the border and made up the sewing technique as I went along. Next time I will be sure to use thread that will blend in more and learn an actual stitch technique for binding.

Other than that, I posted a couple photos from Thomas’ birthday last Saturday. After the wedding, my family took him out for surprise dessert and gave him a gag gift of a doo-rag for his new motorcycle, and a portable picnic kit made from the leftover plastic dishes from the rehersal dinner the night before.

Fruit Flowers

My pepper and tomato plants are blooming. The pink one is a Guara Pink Fountain from the butterfly garden. Yellow is tomato, and the white are peppers – top row is bell, bottom row is chili.

This Saturday is Thomas’ birthday.  He’ll be 28!  Be sure to stop by his site and wish him a happy last-2-years-until-he’s-30.

Atlanta Race for the Cure

Over the bridgeBright and early this morning, Thomas and I joined a few of my coworkers for the Atlanta Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. It was a really great experience. I was shocked at how many people (over 12,000) were there in support of breast cancer research. And it was neat to see the many breast cancer survivors – they wore pink race numbers instead of white.

The race was 5k (about 3 miles), and I finished in 1 hour and 33 minutes. I walked and chatted (and took photos) the whole way. I’m proud to say that together, Thomas and I raised $180, and my team raised over $2000. I think I heard the announcers say that all of the participants raised over one million dollars together…not bad for an early morning and a little leg ache.
