Clover Rescue Mission

Scraggley Little PupThis weekend, Thomas and I took off on a Clover Rescue Mission. We drove up to Charlotte, where we met up with my dad and did a trade off of the pup in a McDonald’s parking lot. I missed the scraggley little pup, and her waggley little tail so much.

While we were in NC, we went to a party at one of Thomas’ friend’s houses. It was a friend he hasn’t really hung out with since meeting me, so I was glad he was able to go, and now I can say I’ve been to one of John’s infamous parties, though this one was supposedly smaller than usual. It was fun though.

Next weekend, I’m signed up to take the motorcycle training class that Thomas took a few weeks ago, but I keep trying to make up excuses to skip it. I signed up just to be the supportive girlfriend, but I really don’t see myself riding his motorcycle much at all. I hate that Thomas would lose the money he paid for me to take this course, but I also feel that is the only thing keeping me in it. If I do go though, a coworker of mine will be there to keep me company.

Other than that, this weekend, I discovered that the rose bush in my backyard is actually a blackberry bush, and I also got Jury Duty assigned for later in May.  And I received a 1-Month Free Coupon for Netflix.  If you want it, let me know and I’ll email you the code.

Free Weekend

Chocolate Chip PancakesWell, Thomas and I didn’t go to Raleigh this weekend. Due to some miscommunication, the parents’ dinner was cancelled, so there really wasn’t a big need to go. We stayed home, and figured we could get Clover from my parents later. I’m kinda disappointed that I missed the Southern Bridal Show. Mom still met up with Thomas’ mom, and his sister to go to it though. Maybe Mom and I will be able to go to one together this Summer – there is one in Georgia in June, and another in August.

So in our free weekend, Thomas and I slept in, made chocolate chip pancakes, watched a movie on TV, went hiking along the Chattahoochee, kayaked, and got some rest time. We’ve both felt sick this past week, and things have been stressful recently, so I think I kinda needed some downtime, though I’m not sure that this weekend was much of a help.

I’ve published photos from last weekend at Amicalola Falls, and our visit to Red Top Mountain. Red Top didn’t impress us as a wedding site, but I think we’re going to take a break from planning for right now anyway.

Weekend with His Family

Easter BunnyThursday night, Thomas’ Mom and Dad arrived in Atlanta to spend two nights at our house before heading up to NC. Thursday night, we went to Swallow at the Hallow for some good ol’ Southern Barbecue.

Friday morning, I went into work since Thomas didn’t have any plans until the afternoon with his parents. I was able to head out early though, and join them for a drive up to see Amicalola Falls. While there, Thomas, his mom and I checked out the lodge as a potential wedding site. It’s got a beautiful view, but not a lot of selection on outside ceremony sites. I think it’s better than Unicoi, however. We skipped the long hike to the foot of the waterfall, but we did check out the top and the reflection pool at the bottom. Afterward, Thomas and I took his parents to our favorite restaurant, Carro de Boi, the Brazilian Steakhouse – the best meat ever, all served on a stick. At home, we watched a movie on TV, and called it an early night due to the road trip the next morning.

Saturday morning, we packed up Clover and ourselves to follow his Mom and Dad to NC. We ended up getting separated along the way, but we both made it to his sister’s house in time for dinner. Her husband made absolutely delicious bacon-wrapped steaks on the grill and twice baked potatoes. I definitely need to learn how to make those. We had Finnish Fazer Eggs for dessert. It was fun to see his niece, who I hadn’t really seen in action since her first week. She’s nearly a year old now, and was really cute and snuggable. I love watching her reactions to things around her.

Saturday night, we headed back to my parents’ house to sleep. We ended up staying up late talking with them about our ideas and thoughts on the wedding. It was really nice since I really haven’t had a chance to talk with them. They are doing an excellent job at asking what we’re imagining and what’s important to us while also giving us tips and ideas. They even had an additional honeymoon idea that I never thought of – to go to Washington state to visit Orcas Island where we can stay in a lodge, do hiking, kayaking, sailing, look for whales, and maybe even head up to Victoria Island, BC – the most VW Bus-filled place I’ve ever been to.

Sunday morning was Easter, and my mom surprised us with breakfast – fruit, sausage, and English muffins. With our stomachs’ full, we headed to Suzanne and Jeremy’s church, to see Amanda, Thomas’ niece, get dedicated. We even saw a real live Easter bunny along the way – see entry photo. We stopped back by my parent’s house afterwards to pack things up, and decided to leave Clover there for the week. We’ll be back next weekend for dinner with both sets of parents, and a Moms’ day at the Southern Bridal Show.

Blooming Yard Photos

Hostas Over the past week, or so, I’ve been collecting photos of my yard – it seems like there’s something new to take a photo of each day. We’ve now got a few dogwoods, a couple azaleas, and a few tulips all in bloom. There are still a couple that I’m waiting to bloom so I can identifiy them. I’ve posted a bunch of the photos to my site if you’d like the check them out – there are two pages in this album.

I also planted a few hosta bulbs and they’re looking good too. I’m not sure when I’ll get a chance to plant them in the yard, but I have been having fun checking on them all everyday when I get home from work. The time change has been so nice – it’s 8PM now and it’s not even dark yet.

First Dogwood Flower

First Dogwood FlowerI’m jealous of the color in my neighbors’ yards. Their tulips, azeleas, and dogwoods are blooming. We finally got our first dogwood tree flower back by the creek this weekend. We also have some barely-blooming pink and white azeleas in the front yard. And the temporarily potted hostas, hydrangeas, and Japanese maples are looking good.

The weather has warmed up to short sleeve and shorts weather. This weekend is the Dogwood Festival at Piedmont Park – I’m hoping to drag Thomas to it. Other than that, I’ve been keeping busy with a ton of little things. I’ll post yard photos and a more substantial entry later this week. Just wanted to note that I’m still alive.

Note: Anyone notice the ant that snuck into the flower photo? I didn’t even see him when I took it.
