Photos of Bloomington

The Ugly Goose Thomas did a really great job of documenting our trip to Bloomington, so instead of repeating it, I’ll just post a link to the photos I took.

There’s geese at Griffy lake, birds at Muscatatuck, skiing with Meow, brunch with the IST gang, and a couple of other random photos. It was a great trip.

3 Years and Running

eIMG_2216.jpg Thomas has finally acheived a milestone that no other guy I’ve ever dated has reached. As of today, we’ve been dating for 3 years.

We’re actually kinda unsure when our actual 3 year mark is. Originally we chose March 15 because that’s the day I realized he was worth keeping around, but we didn’t have an official date until March 25th. That’s when we’ll be celebrating this year. Thomas is doing the planning so I’m not quite sure what he’s got up his sleeve.

I’ve got my journal entries from past years down right now, so I checked Thomas’ blog to reminisce… (Note: his entry photos are no longer matched up correctly)

He asked me out on our first date with an email that said:

Take the year that LiveJournal started.
Two months past your birth month.
Translate the word “sju” to get the day number.
Visit Userfriendly. The entry should have the text “better if we talk in person”.

which led me to this comic and then took several emails and a phone call to confirm that he was asking me on a date. The rest is history.

Georgia Public Broadcasting Tel-a-thon

Kate and Dallas answer phonesLast Sunday, Thomas and I volunteered with the UU’s at the Georgia Public Broadcasting Tel-a-thon.  I was excited because my mom sat next to Clay Aiken’s mom when she volunteered at the Raleigh tel-a-thon.  I didn’t sit next to anyone famous, but I did get to meet and chat with a cool lady in the Roswell congregation.

The tel-a-thon was pretty relaxed – we got free food and were offered VHS tapes of old shows they had aired.  I only had one complaining caller, and that was during Julia Child’s show.  He said her eggs looked runny.

I was able to raise over $1500, but I really didn’t have to do much, just follow a script.  And hopefully whoever used the phone after me didn’t catch the cough that I’ve been fighting all week.

Randomness

First off, congrats to Thomas who starts his new job tomorrow. I hope it’s great first day. And happy BIRTH-day to Buzz and Baby Stitch – I am a daily reader of your parents’ blogs.

And now, just a quick post of some interesting things I’ve seen on the Internet recently…

  • Runaway Bride Bobblehead – Turns out she’s a local, but she made headline news. Ran off from her wedding and faked an abduction. Now you can get the bobblehead doll version. Quite pricey on Ebay.
  • Real Life Simpsons – Just how much does the Simpsons mimic real life? Someone made a human version, as opposed to cartoon, video of the opening sequence.
  • Atlanta Speed Limit Video – Some gutsy GSU students created a video showing the dangers of the 55mph speed limit on Hwy 285 around Atlanta. They lined up their cars so no one could pass and made a complete circle around the loop, at 55mph. Needless to say, the people behind them were not pleased with the speed limit restriction. This was very cool, but I do not recommend doing it yourself.
  • Flying VW Bus – Who would have thought a VW bus could fly? Actually that bus kinda looks like mine when I first got it…and I did have a broken shock. Hmmm… I don’t recommend trying this at home.

Spring in the Yard

Rhodadendron I mentioned before that Spring is here, and now I’ve got proof.

New leaves are showing up and there are even a couple things blooming in the yard, particularly the rhodadendron in the entry photo. I actually brought this plant from Indiana with me. The maple trees are also making a mess with flower droppings all over the driveway.

I took a few photos when we had really strong rain to record where the puddling spots were in the yard. The water disappeared pretty fast actually. It took alot of rain to make the puddles. Speaking of rain, our new roof looks good. I really like how much better the black roof looks to when it was grey. Grey just looked faded to me. Now I just need to paint the door red and get the decks painted. I do like how some of the houses in my neighborhood paint the trim of their house a slightly different shade than the rest of the house. I might look into that whenever we have to get our house painted next.
