Ever since Thanksgiving, I have really wanted to find a dining room set. I just really enjoyed being able to use the dining room to eat in. This weekend, I bought a set that I found on Craigslist. It was a good price for 6 chairs – one with arms, a table with three leaves, a buffet, china cabinet and a table pad.
I really wanted something unique – something that didn’t look like all the other sets in the store right now. This one had a very simple design. It’s maple and the china cabinet is small, but this set just stood out to me. It belonged to a couple in the 90s that moved into a retirement home. They bought it in the 60s. The construction and condition is good. The fabric on the chairs looks dingy, but it shouldn’t be too hard to replace it. Now I just need to plan a dinner party. :)
Here are some photos of the set:

I like the looks of the set in your dining room. They seem just the right size. Now you’ll be able to store some of those extra dishes in there instead of boxes in the basement. I have read that Howells Furniture Finish or revitalizer is excellent to hide all the scuffs and marks, and they sold it in the first antique shop we went in at Thanksgiving. Can you find any marks for a manufacturer on any of the pieces? You made a good purchase. I’m proud of your decisiveness.
Nice. and what a great deal. I’m jealous of your wall space. It seems like every wall in my house is slanted and I have no corners so my corner dish cabinet sits in the basement gathering crap and not displaying my dishes!
That is a gorgeous set. Those seats should be a breeze to re-do, and I really love the angled pattern of the wood on the buffet and the china cabinet. Nice!
